Web 2.0 (english time!)

I already wrote one similar post in spanish so don’t complain spanish people :P.

Hi everybody!! Today is time to talk about some “technical” stuff… just a little bit ok? I promise you that isn’t going to be bored. Let’s talk about web 2.0.

“Web 2.0 is like sex. It’s fun to talk about and read about, but you can’t truly comprehend unless you do it.”
“Web 2.0 is like porn. I can’t define it, but I know it when I see it.”
(Dave Simon)

If I say “web 2.0″ probably the first thing that comes to your head is facebook, flickr, blog, wiki… if nothing came to your head and you just thought “what are you talking about?” here you have an explanation. All started with the static web, only a few people was able to upload all the content for all the websites, you had to make the changes straight into the code and then upload it again, just awful. But then the dynamic web came, it was a really good change. You could interact straight with the web and ¡without touching the code! but still we had the same problem, only a few people was able to write and change the content. And here we are, welcome to the web 2.0, an awesome place where all the people can say something. In fact I’m talking about web 2.0 which also is known as the social web, a place where all the people can interact.

So basically when I’m talking about web 2.0 I’m talking about people. If you think a little bit about this probably you already realised that the people is the most important thing in the web 2.0, without people our website is useless. When someone ask me “What’s the most important thing about web 2.0?” I always say “is not the content, is the feedback“. What social network are you going to use? Facebook? MySpace? Doesn’t matter if Facebook is 10 times better than MySpace, if your friends are in MySpace you will join there, just because you won’t get any kind of feedback in Facebook.

The Forrest Effect

“Blogs are like a box of chocolates. You never know which article is going to link”
“If you write an article in your blog thinking that someone wanted to read it, you didn’t understand what is a blog”
(Rebecca Blood)

Sometimes the most stupid things that you write are the most visited or commented, I wrote an article during 2 days in my personal blog and I didn’t get too many comments or visitors, however one friend of mine just put a button which it makes one sound and he got thousand visits and comments in just few hours.

Pareto Principle

We need people, that’s important but ¿which kind of people? Usually the people who read a blog, or make some comments are just “lost people”, they just leave a comment like “Your blog sucks” or “I love your blog” and that’s all, you will never see again. A lot of people don’t know how to use the web 2.0 (facebook’s tests…). Pareto said “for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes” e.g.,”80% of your sales come from 20% of your clients”. The same thing is happening in the web 2.0, only the 20% of the people contribute in a positive way, the rest are just “lost people”.

And yes, my project is about web 2.0 ;) but it was enough for today.

Cheers!!
